The Factory of Light
Y’s—the everyday-wear label of Yohji Yamamoto Inc.—has designed and produced a unique jacket
to be worn by the hosts of Aesop’s Factory of Light, an illuminative new installation in Milan during
Salone del Mobile.
Featuring a large patch pocket at the waist and an inner chest pocket on the left, the garment has a
delicate wrinkled texture—the product of a vintage processing technique that imbues the fabric with
a quietly characterful appearance. Functional and moderately relaxed, it is a distinctly fitting
uniform—literally and metaphorically—for hosts as they welcome, usher and assist guests through
the Factory of Light.
The jacket marks a collaboration between two brands from separate spheres but cut from the same
cloth. As nonconformists by nature, both Y’s and Aesop adorn the skin with something beyond just
formulations, fragrance or fabric. Sharing a curiosity about people and their daily pursuits, a sense
of restraint and a preference for the asymmetrical—often in black and neutral hues—each seeks to
bring poetry to everyday living.
For the third consecutive year, Aesop is present at Salone del Mobile—this time with an installation
that explores purposeful craft, the nature of light and the hands that harness it. Titled The Factory of
Light, the multi-sensorial experience mirrors how Aesop brings illumination and intrigue to every
room in which it is placed, and every skin it touches. An effortless addition to nighttime regimens.
